Built for the Hunt: Inside Cordia Hunting Apparel

Born in the Heat, Proven Across Continents: How Cordia Is Redefining Performance Hunting Apparel

Recently, Jay Roberts of Shoshone Adventures sat down with longtime friend Chris Grant, founder of Cordia Hunting Company—or as they call it in South Georgia, Cordia Hun’n Company. What began as a simple discussion about gear quickly evolved into an in-depth conversation on innovation, field testing, and the real-world challenges that inspired one of the most thoughtfully engineered apparel lines in modern hunting.

A Problem Born in the Heat of Texas

The idea for Cordia originated during the sweltering September heat of South Texas. With dove season temperatures soaring past 100 degrees, Chris was frustrated by hunting shirts that trapped heat and restricted airflow. He asked a simple question: “What kind of shirt would actually perform in extreme heat?” That question sparked a journey into fabric technology, garment construction, and cooling systems—eventually leading to the launch of Cordia Hunting Company.

From Texas to Namibia: Field-Tested Performance

Chris and Jay have worn Cordia gear everywhere from Mexico’s archery elk hunts to the wild terrains of Namibia. Africa became the ultimate testing ground, where temperatures swing from the low 40s at sunrise to high 80s under the equatorial sun. It didn’t take long to identify which pieces excelled under pressure.

The Cooling Polo – Breathable protection

At the core of Cordia’s apparel lineup is the Cooling Polo. Unlike woven fabrics, polos are knitted—allowing stretch, breathability, and increased airflow. Cordia enhances this with:

  • Cooling yarn technology
  • Moisture-wicking performance
  • Quick-dry construction
  • Lightweight, breathable feel

With styling that transitions from hunt to travel to everyday wear, Jay says, “I wear it everywhere—on hunts, on the plane, even to the office.”

The Chorizo Pant – Lightweight and rugged

The Chorizo Pant quickly became a go-to in the brush of Namibia. Designed with a dual-construction build, it combines:

  • Stretch nylon upper for mobility and ventilation
  • Tough oxford-weave lower for thorn and brush resistance

Ideal for heat, travel, and rugged terrain, these pants proved themselves in African brush country.

The Flyweight Button-Up – Protection Without Bulk

A standout in Namibia, the Flyweight Button-Up uses the thinnest durable fabric Cordia could manufacture. It’s ideal for:

  • Wide temperature swings
  • Harsh sun exposure
  • High-activity days requiring maximum breathability

Perfect for mountain glassing sessions or midday stalks.

The Ranch Jacket – Versatile, Quiet, Hunt-Anywhere Style

Part British field jacket, part technical outerwear, the Ranch Jacket is remarkably adaptable. Jay’s personal favorite moment—his 18-year-old son “borrowed” it and never returned it for college. Designed with:

  • Low-noise fabric for bowhunting
  • Brush-resistant construction
  • Warmth without weight
  • A timeless look suited for field or dinner

The Dead Drop Jacket – Late-Season Heat Control

Built for late-season hunts in Alberta, New Mexico, and beyond, the Dead Drop Jacket uses Primaloft insulation and wind-stopping technology to trap heat without causing overheating. Chris explains, “I can wear it at 60 degrees without overheating, and I can wear it at 20 and stay warm.”

The late-season camo pattern—earth tones with subtle green—blends perfectly when foliage fades.

The Future of Functional Hunting Apparel

Cordia Hunting Company was built on a relentless pursuit: creating apparel that truly performs in real-world conditions. From the Texas heat to African bushveld to late-season elk country, Cordia gear is continuously evolving through field testing by hunters who push it to the limit.

For Jay and the Shoshone Adventures team, the partnership with Cordia is rooted in authenticity—gear created by people who hunt hard, travel far, and expect their clothing to keep up.
