For over 20 years, I’ve been fortunate to experience the thrill of hunting in Southern Africa. But I had always dreamed of sharing this adventure with my children. My wife, who loves both wildlife and local culture, has joined me on countless trips—from Table Mountain to Victoria Falls, from the Garden Route to the Cape Winelands. Each journey has been unforgettable.
In June 2024, I finally brought my family on safari with Cruiser Safaris. Joining us were close friends, including Johnathan and Meredith Roberts and their children, and Jason and Trinity Cunard with their kids. While some started as non-hunters, by the end of the trip, everyone had embraced the adventure, from harvesting their first big game to experiencing Africa firsthand.
Why Take Your Family on Safari
Safe and Family-Friendly
One of the biggest concerns for families is safety. South Africa is incredibly safe, especially when working with reputable outfitters like Cruiser Safaris. Comfortable accommodations, welcoming staff, and organized logistics make it ideal for family adventures.
Lifelong Friendships and Bonding
Watching the kids interact—playing pool, running on sandy trails, and sharing meals—was a highlight. Meanwhile, the adults connected over fireside conversations, wine, and even helping prepare a traditional riverside meal.
“The expressions on first-time hunters’ faces—pride, excitement, and awe—are unforgettable.”

First-Time Hunt Excitement
Meredith and Trinity each harvested their first big game, creating moments of pride and exhilaration that will last a lifetime. Watching them embrace the hunt was incredibly rewarding.
Cruiser Safaris: A True Family Destination
Cruiser Safaris offers more than hunting—it’s a place families feel at home. Comfortable lodges, short drives to town, and activities for non-hunters ensure everyone enjoys the experience, hunters and non-hunters alike.
Traveling with Kids
Yes, the long flight is part of the journey, but the payoff is huge. Our children, Asher and Taylor, harvested impala, blue wildebeest, warthog, blesbuck, and gemsbok—memories that will last forever.
Incredible Food and Hospitality
From game meats we harvested to traditional South African dishes, every meal was spectacular. The chef’s talent left everyone wishing they could take him home!
Final Thoughts
Bringing my family on safari was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. From thrilling hunts to breathtaking landscapes and shared meals by the fire, the memories created are priceless. If you’ve ever considered a family safari, South Africa awaits—and the adventure will be one your children will cherish forever.
