Nunavut Polar Bear Hunt

Experience one of the world’s most iconic Arctic adventures, hunting polar bears along the Western Hudson Bay coast.
Polar Bear Hunting on the Western Hudson Bay Coast

The western coast of Hudson Bay is widely recognized as having the highest density of polar bears on Earth. Each fall, during October and November, polar bears gather along the coastline as they wait for the sea ice to form before migrating to their winter hunting grounds. As a result, hunters can reasonably expect to see five to ten bears per day during this peak period. While polar bears are not currently importable into the United States, the experience itself remains one of the most iconic Arctic adventures available anywhere in the world.

Why Fall Is the Prime Season

Fall hunts offer a significant advantage over spring hunts. Most notably, hunters typically observe up to 80 percent more bears during the fall migration period. In addition, temperatures are far more moderate, generally ranging from 14°F to -4°F, compared to extreme spring conditions that can drop well below -40°F. Consequently, fall provides better visibility, safer travel conditions, and a more comfortable overall experience.

Access to Prime Polar Bear Country

Rather than traveling long distances by snowmobile or ATV just to reach hunting areas, this hunt begins directly in prime polar bear habitat. Hunters fly commercially from Winnipeg to the Inuit community of Arviat on the western shore of Hudson Bay. From there, access to productive hunting grounds is immediate, allowing more time to focus on the hunt itself.

Experienced Inuit Guides & Modern Safety

Highly experienced Inuit guides lead each hunt, bringing generations of local knowledge and an intimate understanding of polar bear behavior. Furthermore, modern communication systems—including satellite devices and internet connectivity—are used to enhance safety throughout the hunt.

Comfortable Fair-Chase Arctic Camp

This is a true fair-chase hunt conducted over ten days using bow, rifle, or a combination of both, depending on conditions. Hunters stay in a well-established Arctic outpost camp located deep in polar bear country. Unlike traditional polar bear hunts, this camp provides heated accommodations, electricity, a kitchen and dining area, shower facilities, and secure shelter from the elements.

An Iconic Arctic Experience

Ultimately, this Western Hudson Bay adventure delivers unmatched wildlife encounters, expert guiding, and rare access to one of the world’s most extraordinary hunting environments.
