The black bear zone lies within one of Alberta’s northernmost agricultural regions. Because nutritious crop fields sit adjacent to vast expanses of untouched boreal forest, this region consistently produces giant bruins. Hunters pursue bears across an intensely productive 10-square-mile area surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of unpressured land. Consequently, it is not unusual to see 15–20 bears in a single oat field on a typical evening—creating one of the most adrenaline-filled bear hunts in North America.
