True High-Elevation Wilderness Hunting
These mountain goat hunts take place in the remote reaches of northern British Columbia, approximately 165 air miles north of Smithers, and border a vast protected wilderness park. Spanning roughly 1,200 square miles, the hunting area encompasses rugged alpine terrain and dramatic mountain systems that create ideal habitat for mature mountain goats. As a result, hunters experience a true backcountry adventure in some of the most challenging and scenic country in North America.
Base Camp and Mobile Spike Camps
The hunt begins at a comfortable main camp featuring log and frame cabins, which serves as the primary staging area. From there, hunters move into strategically placed spike camps consisting of wall tents. Additionally, backpack-style tents are used on many mountain goat hunts to access higher elevations and extremely remote alpine basins. This layered camp system allows guides to position hunters precisely where goats are located, increasing both opportunity and flexibility.
Backpack-Style Alpine Access
Mountain goat hunts are conducted primarily in a backpack format, emphasizing physical effort and careful glassing in steep terrain. However, when conditions allow, limited use of ATVs or boats may be employed during the initial access phase to reach remote drainages more efficiently. In addition, several small, isolated lakes are used as drop-off points for backpack hunts, placing hunters deep into untouched alpine country.
Expansive Drainages and Prime Goat Habitat
The hunting territory includes portions of the Skeena, Klappan, Spatsizi, and Stikine river systems—areas well known for their steep cliffs, broken rock faces, and high-elevation escape terrain favored by mountain goats. Most hunts are ten days in length, providing ample time for glassing, stalking, and safe shot placement in demanding conditions. Longer or custom hunt durations can be arranged upon request.
Personalized, Low-Pressure Hunts
Hunter numbers are intentionally limited to maintain low pressure and a highly personalized experience. Consequently, expectations are managed carefully, safety is prioritized, and each hunt is tailored to deliver a serious mountain goat adventure in true wilderness conditions.
