Incredible Habitats and Species Diversity
This area offers an incredible array of habitats, resulting in amazing species diversity. Within just an hour’s drive, hunters can experience high-altitude mountain grasslands, coastal forests, Karoo semi-desert plains, acacia savanna, and subtropical thicket. The primary hunting style is walk and stalk, with rolling hills and mountains providing excellent opportunities for glassing and long stalks. This style of hunting keeps hunters coming back year after year.
The Eastern Cape also offers some unique experiences, such as hunting caracal over hounds or pursuing driven blue duiker in the dense coastal forests. While the region is primarily a plains game area, the variety of species, style of hunting, and overall value make it ideal for first-time hunters in Africa.
Free-Range Hunting with Historical Roots
Free-range (low-fence) safaris are rare in South Africa and highly sought after. This outfitter’s family settled near Grahamstown over 200 years ago, establishing a sheep ranch on what was once some of the best free-range plains game hunting grounds in the country. Clients stay in comfortable wooden cabins near the farmhouse, just steps from the swimming pool. The lodge is perched high in the terrain, offering spectacular views of the surrounding hunting areas and the Eastern Cape Mountains.
All hunts include meals, drinks, accommodations, free airport transfers from Port Elizabeth, and the 15% VAT. Side trips are available to Addo Elephant Park, and the outfitter contracts out for specialty species such as blue duiker and caracal.
