If you are looking for a physical New Mexico Mule Deer hunting experience providing you an opportunity at harvesting a truly trophy mule deer buck, this hunting adventure with Superior Outfitters is definitely one to take a look at. This mule deer hunt is based out of Unit 7 in New Mexico where you will be hunting over 10,000 acres of non-contiguous private land that boards the Hickory Apache Reservation. This hunt, offered in both rifle and archery, is conducted over 5-Days where you will be targeting bucks in the 170”+ category with the average range being between 170” - 190”, with the main focus of this hunt being to harvest a truly mature mule deer buck. The terrain of this hunt consists of mainly sandstone mesas that are timbered with pinions and junipers, with additional food plots strategically implemented by the outfitter as well. This hunt is by no means an easy hunt for hunters, the outfitter specifically emphasizes that this hunt requires diligent hiking and boots on the ground to make success a reality. A typical hunt day begins by going out in the field in the dark and getting up to vantage points and glassing during early morning and late evening hours. During the mid-day, you will stalk ridges and work canyons in attempts to find the truly trophy bucks that masterfully hide amongst the pines and mesas. Hunters should expect to possibly see 2-3 target bucks during their hunt, with the possibility of seeing more. Average shot distance is variable with this hunt during rifle season, mule deer have a way of maintaining a bubble at 300 yards, meaning that the average shot is between 250 yards - 350 yards, with the possibility of closer shots presenting themselves during the November Rifle Season. During the January archery season, you can expect to see more bucks during this time of year. This archery hunt is conducted from January 1st to 15th where you get to select any 5-Days during this season. This is a fun hunt as there are a lot of deer moving during the tail end of the rut and snow is on the ground. Average shot distance for this hunt is mainly based on what the client feels most comfortable with, the outfitter doesn’t want clients taking shots that they don’t feel comfortable with, but clients should feel comfortable taking shots between 30 yards - 60 yards, but if they can comfortably shoot out to 70 yards or 80 yards that is always beneficial. Ultimately, this hunt has 2 tags available for both the November rifle season and the January archery season, with the outfitter preferring this hunt being conducted as a 2x1. With an average success rate of 50%, this hunt is not for everyone, but for those who want a great adventure and a true opportunity at harvesting a giant New Mexico Mule Deer at a competitive price, this is a hunt that is hard to beat with one of the most reputable and quality outfitters in the state.
