If you are looking for an exception mule deer hunt at a competitive price point that provides great opportunity at harvesting a mature mule deer, this is a hunt to take a look at. This Colorado outfitter is part of the “Ranching for Wildlife” program in the great state of Colorado. All ranches within their organization are run under the Ranching For Wildlife Program (RFW) and are not subject to many of the traditional restrictions that are mandatory on other ranches state wide. The RFW Program is a cooperative agreement between the State of Colorado and a limited number of premier ranches within the state. For certain concessions that the outfitter makes to the state, they, as private land owners, are allowed a much greater say in the management of the game herds within their borders. In conjunction to having a greater say in the management they also receive certain other benefits such as ability to set their own season dates. This means that the outfitter can tailor the dates of a hunt to fit a group's needs, therefore reducing hunting pressure and making it possible to have much smaller groups booked over a longer time frame. Secondly, ability to hunt by any legal means. This simply allows you to choose your weapon. You may hunt with a bow, rifle or muzzleloader at any time during your hunt without restriction. Finally, Guaranteed Licenses. All licenses are issued directly to the ranch. Licenses are then purchased by the hunter from our distributor prior to hunting. Hunters will provide proper identification and a copy of your hunter safety card and issued a license. Anyone born after 1948 is required to have a hunter safety card. If you have booked more than one species, you will need to buy all 3 licenses at one time, and regardless of when your hunt is booked. The licenses are guaranteed through the duration of our set season. These mule deer hunts will be conducted on one of their three camps on the ranch, in particular, you will likely be set up on the Ripply camp, known for its comfort and hunting. This portion of the ranch consists of 37,000 acres. Much of it borders the Routt National Forest, and the number of elk found here is beyond one's imagination. They have operated this ranch for nearly 20 years, and they have never had a year when harvest dips below 90%. The new lodge, known as "Rippy's" consists of 8 private cabins that each offer a queen and twin bed, and a private bathroom. The cabins are just a few steps away from the main dining hall and gathering area. This camp offers all the modern amenities such as WiFi and Direct TV. This ranch has the ability to provide any type of hunter an excellent opportunity for a harvest. It has a well established road system that can get hunters in close proximity to the wildlife. Other areas will require some physical exertion. This ranch can offer any type of hunting a person desires. For the Mule Deer hunts in particular, this outfitter is coming off a bad winter a few years ago. In 2023, they did not conduct any mule deer hunts to allow for their mule deer population to recover from the winter kills that unfortunately struck them. That being said, the size expectation for this hunt is mule deer in the 150” range, with opportunity at bucks above and below that average range. Expectations for hunters when it comes to numbers of deer seen per day is between 4 - 5 bucks a day. Ultimately, with everything included from lodging, meals, professional guiding services, and the unique flexibility and opportunity this hunt provides on private land; this is a great mule deer hunt to consider not only for a solo hunter, but also for a perfect father & son hunt or 2x1 hunt with a hunting partner or family member.
