For most hunters, woodland bison is the pinnacle trophy. These majestic creatures are so large, you will surely be stunned when you see them up close. These are native, free ranging woodland bison in their natural habitat. Fortunately, they are not a pure woodland bison in Canada due to the nature of their reintroduction and historical genetic bottlenecking – which means you are allowed to export your cape and horns to the United States and these bison qualify for SCI & SCI North America Slams under the woodland bison category. The bull may weight up to 3000 lbs. and a cow 1500 lbs. Studies have shown that many of the bulls in this area are ancient, and trophy potential is very high. There is also the satisfaction of having hunted a rare and awesome trophy – a true free ranging woodland bison. The very elusive timber wolf inhabits the same area as the woodland bison and can be hunted with reasonable success at any time during the hunt. Most of the hunting will be done on snowmobiles and quads, and it’s common to travel up to 80 km (50 miles) in a day in snow 1-3 feet deep, furthermore this hunt will be conducted during the heart of winter and you should expect temperatures between -20 to -40 Fahrenheit. As firearms go, a .375 caliber minimum is implemented by the outfitter as well as a 300 grain bullet minimum. This is due to the robust and indomitable nature of these bison where you need to place a high percentage & high powered shot on these bison in order to bring them down. This hunt is also conducted 100% in boreal forest where you will stalk them deep into the wilderness using snowshoes once you have identified the bull you will pursue. Historical Shot Opportunity Rate is 60-65% on trophy bulls with this outfitter and shots are on average 100 yards and under. Ultimately, this is a true adventure hunt that will provide you with a true hunt and adventure of a lifetime in the breath-taking wilderness of Northern Alberta.
